SFI Conservation and Research

Montana Black Bear

Managed forests deliver enormous environmental, social and economic benefits to local and global communities. The SFI program’s comprehensive standard backs a strong commitment to sustainable forest management and continuous improvement, both on SFI-certified lands and, through its fiber sourcing requirements, on lands that are not certified.

Prominent conservation groups such as the The Conservation Fund, American Bird Conservancy, Ducks Unlimited and Conservation International support the SFI program. They also collaborate with SFI Inc. and program participants to conduct research and work on the ground aimed at improving forest practices and meeting conservation objectives. Since 1995, SFI-certified organizations have contributed almost $1 billion (US) toward forest research.

The SFI program recognizes the achievements of its many partners by creating awards such as the Sharon H. Haines Memorial Award for Innovation and Leadership in Sustainability and the Achievement in Wildlife Management Award. In 2008, SFI Inc. awarded its first Leadership in Conservation Research Award.
